About Us

Sorrel and Tarrin McDonough are two sisters living in Vancouver. In 2012, they created their alter-ego, the Styrogirls, on which to pin blame for their more questionable creative impulses: things like building massive two-person costumes for the annual Polar Bear Swim, stomping around the city as an 8 ft tall Taylor Swift lego minifig, and of course, transforming city features into Star Wars scenes every May the 4th.

A lifelong Star Wars fanatic, Sorrel had a revelation in 2016: Vancouver’s urban landscape was riddled with features that look suspiciously like characters and machines from the Star Wars universe. Someone had to liberate these trapped spirits—from fountains, sculptures, bike racks, and lamp posts—using styrofoam, EVA foam, paper, paint, items rescued from the recycling bin, and a questionable understanding of the law of physics.
